Dr. Martin Eigner Discussing the Role of a PLM Platform in Digitalization of Engineering

Role of a PLM

Ever increasing product complexity forces organizations to reimagine their approach to design—including new methodologies, design tools, and configuration management for every step of the lifecycle. This also must include the pivotal role of a PLM platform plays in enabling the system-centric view of a product: traceability of requirements, management of systems models, simulation, and cross-discipline collaboration.

Prof. Dr.-Ing Martin Eigner (GF), CEO and Senior Consultant at EIGNER Engineering Consult, and Mark Reisig, VP Product Marketing at Aras, discuss the role a PLM platform plays in Digitalization of Engineering.

Ever increasing product complexity forces organizations to reimagine their approach to design—including new methodologies, design tools, and configuration management for every step of the lifecycle. This also must include the pivotal role of a PLM platform plays in enabling the traceability of requirements, management of systems models, simulation, and cross-discipline collaboration.

Traditionally, digital representation of designs started with physical designs and then leveraged PLM solutions to manage BOM-centric representations of products. But as products become systems, and systems become systems-of-systems, that is no longer sufficient. Digital representations must include the system-centric view of a product: parameterized requirements, systems architecture, variability in platforms, pervasive simulation, and virtual and physical validation and verification. That is the essence of the Digitalization of Engineering: enabling universal traceability of all relationships captured by the engineering V model across all design representations and variants—from concept to a serialized asset in the field.

Join Prof. Dr.-Ing Martin Eigner (GF), CEO and Senior Consultant at EIGNER Engineering Consult, and Mark Reisig, VP Product Marketing at Aras, for their live discussion of the role a PLM platform plays in Digitalization of Engineering.

Prof. Martin Eigner is one of the few experts in the world with a breadth of experience in development, implementation, research and teaching of product data usage and systems. His involvement with the PLM industry spans 45 years during which he has implemented over 900 customer-driven projects worldwide. Prof. Eigner’s latest book “Systems Lifecycle Management,” details the evolution of data management solutions from Product Data Management through Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) to Systems Lifecycle Management (SysLM).
