In a recent blog post on Wired Innovation Insights, Peter Schroer, Aras CEO, discussed the problems that arise when you build enterprise software starting from a static data model and how we do it differently at Aras.
The major problem with the static data model is that it results in inflexible systems that require complex programing for even the simplest changes. When this happens, IT gets backed up and end-users get frustrated. This vicious cycle creates more problems, as Peter explains:
"IT can't deliver, so what do end-users do? They create the work-around, a.k.a. the Excel spreadsheet. It's the corporate cure-all. When something can't be done in the enterprise business system, we just create a spreadsheet for it. Untold numbers of them store vital IP and create the perfect storm for data integrity and compliance risks."
We took a different approach when developing the Aras Innovator framework, "we build services around a Modeling Engine that is purpose built to change dynamically."
