Pi is approximately 3.14159 but it never ends and never becomes a permanent repeating pattern. Pi has been calculated to over 10 trillion digits but most applications require no more than 40 digits. Here’s what a million digits of pi looks like.
Pi is most frequently used in geometry, representing the ratio of a circle’s circumference (C) to its diameter (d). π = C/d
Here are a couple examples of formulas involving π:
Area of a circle: A = π r 2
Volume of a cylinder: V = π r 2h
