I just the read the Information Week article about General Motor’s “U-Turn” on outsourcing. GM is turning IT into a value-add and mission critical resource again, instead of just a cost center driven to reduce IT infrastructure costs as its only goal. Awesome! This is long past due.
I remember when IT was all about transforming a business and IT leaders were the ones driving business process improvements. Been a long time… Hats off to the GM executive team for having the guts to make this change. This is going to be a great time to work for GM; there should be a line out the door for those new IT openings. I hope the whole industry follows GM’s lead.
Now if we could just get some recognition that the “Big Box” PLM/ERP Software vendors (Siemens, SAP, PTC, Oracle, etc.) are similarly no longer adding value proportional to the investment and start driving the adoption of new technologies and fresh IT approaches then we’d have a real revolution!
