At Aras, we believe that delivering the industry’s most flexible and resilient PLM SaaS platform requires more than just great technology—it requires the right people and the right strategy. That’s why we’re excited to introduce Grant Killian, who recently joined the Aras leadership team as Senior Director of Cloud Operations.

Grant brings a wealth of experience in software development, cloud solution architecture, and building high-performance engineering teams. His expertise lies in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of distributed systems—key pillars for any successful SaaS operation. Grant joins Aras at a time of rapid growth and adoption of Aras Innovator SaaS, and he’s already making a significant impact.

To give our community a glimpse into Grant’s vision and leadership style, we sat down with him for a quick Q&A hosted by Aras Product Marketing Manager Bruce Bookbinder.

Learning from experience, leading with insight

Bruce Bookbinder: Can you tell us a little bit about your prior experience in cloud operations and SaaS?
Grant Killian: I’ve worked for several enterprise software vendors transitioning from on-premises to public cloud delivery. Each of these organizations followed a path similar to Aras’ current journey—leveraging cloud flexibility, cost agility, and modern tech stacks to better serve customers.

This isn’t just a technological shift; it’s a business transformation. My goal is to help Aras navigate it successfully.

Shaping the future of cloud at Aras

BB: What does your role entail?
GK: I lead the global Aras cloud team, focusing on scaling our operations and building resilient support structures to deliver a world-class SaaS experience. It’s about aligning technical excellence with our customers’ unique needs.

BB: How is your past experience helping you support Aras SaaS customers?
GK: I’m deeply familiar with Microsoft Azure, and I’ve guided teams through the process of scaling SaaS operations on that platform. Aras is already on a strong trajectory, and I’m here to help mature our practices, improve resiliency, and ensure we meet and exceed expectations at scale.

Cloud operations with purpose

BB: What’s your impression of Aras’ cloud operations so far?
GK: The Aras Innovator® platform has an impressive product/market fit and a passionate community. I see a smart, committed cloud team that’s already doing great work, and I also see huge potential to scale best practices across all customers. That network effect is powerful.

BB: Has anything surprised you?
GK: The containerization of the Aras platform really impressed me. It speaks to the forward-thinking approach of our engineering, QA, product, and operations teams. We’re in a great position to optimize performance and agility in the cloud.

Vision for 2025 and beyond

BB: What are you focused on in the near future?
GK: In 2025, one key area is evolving our internal knowledge-sharing and elevating the collective understanding of how our SaaS model works across the company and with customers. Cloud isn’t just infrastructure—it’s a service, and that comes with shared responsibilities.

We’re also refining how we communicate and support extensions and custom components developed outside Aras. Our cloud model isn’t identical to on-prem—it’s a collaborative ecosystem where Aras plays an active, hands-on role.

Investing in people, process, and technology

Grant’s arrival is part of Aras’s broader investment in people, processes, and technology to lead the way in PLM SaaS. As organizations increasingly adopt the cloud for digital transformation, Aras is committed to delivering not only best-in-class technology but also the expert leadership and operational excellence that modern enterprises demand.

With leaders like Grant Killian at the helm of our cloud operations, we’re building a future where customers can confidently scale, customize, and innovate—without compromise.
